Dr. Binod Kumar Singh was born in Bishanpur village, Madhubani district, Bihar — a region whose soil has fed Mithila's poets, painters and freedom-fighters for centuries. डॉ. बिनोद कुमार सिंह का जन्म बिशनपुर गाँव, मधुबनी ज़िला, बिहार में हुआ — एक ऐसा क्षेत्र जिसकी मिट्टी ने सदियों से मिथिला के कवियों, चित्रकारों और स्वतंत्रता-सेनानियों को पोषा है।

His father was a famous freedom fighter, an awardee of the Tamra Patra — the copper plaque conferred by the Government of India on those who took part in the struggle for Independence. His primary schooling began in the village schools of Bishanpur. His thirty-two years took him through some of the busiest revenue stations of the country. He served in Kolkata, Delhi, Noida, Muradabad, Meerut, and across Gujarat — including the Rajkot and Kutch regions. The retirement was not a retreat. Within months, Dr. Singh had taken charge of the Mahavir Singh Memorial Trust — the institution founded in his father's name — and had begun convening the alumni of his alma mater, JNU.
